Overview

The future success of South Yorkshire depends on embedding sustainable development policy and practice into public sector decision-making and partnerships. Social, economic and environmental factors need to be balanced. The interdependence of these factors needs to be built into policy and organisations.

A series of workshops have been funded primarily by the Objective 1 South Yorkshire Programme, with additional funding from The South Yorkshire partnership and Government Office for Yorkshire and Humber to develop improved capacity and understanding. These workshops will use a proven and innovative learning approach that allows delegates to experience sustainable development in a virtual model (learning-simulation).

The future is not somewhere we are going but somewhere we are creating. If we are to build sustainable communities it needs all organisations to work together.

The primary objectives of the Planit South Yorkshire Project are:

• Effective mainstreaming of sustainable development
• To help implement the local sustainable development agenda
• Strengthen Partnership Working
• Improve the real world application of sustainable development
• Enhance the sub region’s sustainable development capacity

The Project

The project uses planit-sustainability (Yorkshire and Humber) this is a computer based resource management model designed and developed by pixelfountain.

planit-sustainability has been successfully used to train over 2000 delegates in over 80 workshops across the North West and Yorkshire and the Humber to great acclaim. The project is a partnership between EnviroFutures and pixelfountain.

pixelfountain built on years of experience of developing standalone learning games to create our first workshop delivered learning-simulation.

The product goes from strength to strength. In part because of the collaborative nature of the exercise, but also because planit-sustainability models real issues involved in developing more sustainable communities. It is based upon targets and objectives found in Regional Sustainable Development Frameworks.
